East Coast Park Outing
Post-PSLE outing for the P6s on 24 Oct 08. We were the only class dropped off wrongly at the food centre. Alas! We had to walk quite a distance to the MacDonalds where everyone was supposed to be dropped off. Soon it started to drizzle so we quickened our pace. Some resorted to running! Quite an early morning warm-up we had, which awakened all the sleepy souls. Midway, we saw pupils from other classes and even Mr Fong cycling blissfully. That did not dampen our spirit. We waved them by and silently wished that the bicycle/rollerblading kiosk was nearby. We walked further and finally caught sight of the kiosk. Like animals escaping from the zoo, we ran towards it. Relieved.

Survival Skills - Cooking
First attempt at cooking for some of them. Some were apprehensive when first told of the activity and even wondered if the final product would be edible. Looking at their faces when they were relishing the rice that they had cooked, I would say that they had an enjoyable time and an enlightening experience.
CIP @ Sembawang Park
The class went to Sembawang Park to do their part for the community on 15 Oct 08.
Post-PSLE Class Party @ Castle Green
Rosalyn and Micole hosted a class party at Castle Green Function Room to celebrate the end of PSLE. Both chipped in money to provide food for dinner too. How sweet! Pizzas and KFC chicken were ordered. They were gobbled up by the hungry 'vultures' before they could even be seen by those at the end of the room! Almost the whole class turned up for the party. I'm sure they had fun. I can't say the same for the poor security guards who had to warn them several times to keep their noise level down. ><

Sentosa Motivational trip - 28 May 2008
All the Pri. 6s were brought to Sentosa for a motivational programme. The school and teachers wanted them to have a day of fun and bonding to recognise the effort that they have been putting in for the PSLE. We also hope that they will persevere and work harder to achieve success. We wish them all the best in their endeavours.

PW : Global Warming - My Reflection 1
You will be doing a project work on Global Warming throughout the week. To reinforce learning, you will be required to reflect on some of the activities on this blog.
Last weekend, you were asked to do a research on 3 campaigns that help to tackle the issue of global warming: Earth Day, World Environment Day and Singapore Recycle Day. Today, you've shared your findings with 2 other groups.
Reflect on the following questions:
(1) What do you know about the campaigns?
(2) What message(s) are they trying to send?
(3) What was done to capture the attention of the public about the particular campaign?
(4) How can you play your part in the campaigns?
(5) How can we improve on the campaigns?
(6) What are the learning points from the campaigns that you can apply to your own campaigns?
You can click on the following links to read more on the campaigns.

T2 / W8: Reflection - Mothers
Hi all,
Since this Sunday is Mother's Day, I thought we should pay tribute to them this week.
There is simply no way we can ever really thank our mother for all she has done for us. She is the one who will be awake all night when we are sick, pray to God to make us well and be ever ready to bear the pain that we may be experiencing. She is the one to wake up early in the morning to make us breakfast and endure all our tantrums.
Mothers are the ones who would forever complain that we are not eating enough or not eating right. They would cook all sorts of things so that we are strong and healthy. Mothers in fact, worry more for our examinations than we do. Don't you agree?
Mothers are also the one on whom we frequently put the blame for our failures. We would not hesitate once to point out her mistakes though she would not miss even the slightest opportunity to praise us. It is easy for the kids to be so demanding to parents, specially mothers, as we take her affection and care so much for granted, most often to the extent of selfishness.
Mother's Day is the perfect day to celebrate the joys of having a mother. It is the time to make amends for not being able to spend quality time with her. So turn your wrongs right by making all effort to give a perfect Mother's Day to your mother. Think about her likes and dislikes and act accordingly. Strive to make Mothers' Day absolutely hassle-free for your mother and take the responsibilities on yourself for a day. Pamper her a little on this special day of hers just as she pampers you all year round. Give her a warm hug and a big kiss as you wish her a Happy Mother's Day!
Sometimes we rarely convey how much we treasure our loved ones. We often take it for granted that they know. Hence, I would like you to use this blog as a platform to talk about your relationship with your mum. Reflect on what your mum has done for you and what you have done for your mum to show your appreciation of the work she has done to raise you. Do also share with me your plans for Mothers' Day.
Here's wishing all mothers a splendid Mother's Day! You all deserve a pat on the back for a job well done! :)

T2 / W3: Reflection - Dreams
ON A HAPPY NOTE: Studying at the prestigious Purcell school in Britain, Janell Yeo has been scoring straight As and is set to make her mark in the music world. -- PHOTO: BETTY CHUA FOR THE STRAITS TIMES
Click here to read the article.
I've shared with you the story of Janell Yeo in class. She is someone who has the courage to pursue her dreams of becoming a violinist at such a young age. Now, she's back in Singapore performing her first solo concert.
All of us dream of becoming somebody, owning something or doing something which we really want to do. Whatever it is, it will not be possible to realise our dream if we do not have a plan. In this week's reflection, I would like you to tell me about your dream. Here are some questions to guide you in your reflection:
a) What is your dream?
b) Why do you think this dream is so important to you?
c) How do you plan to realise your dream?
d) Do you think people should have dreams? Why?
Dream away..... :)
“To dream anything that you want to dream. That's the beauty of the human mind. To do anything that you want to do. That is the strength of the human will. To trust yourself to test your limits. That is the courage to succeed.”
.....Bernard Edmonds

T2 / W1: Reflection - Time Flies
Hi everyone! Welcome back to school! My apologies for this late posting.
I hope that you have had a good term break and are ready for the challenges that come your way in this term. Term 1 practically flew past us. Some of you have progressed well last term while others are still struggling to keep up with the workload. For this week, I would like you to reflect on your time-management skills.
Please click on this link and comment on the time-management quote or saying that got your attention the most or you truly believe in. You can also ponder over why time is so hard to manage for some while others make it appear so easy to do. You can also give your friends useful tips or strategies that can help them manage time.
I'm looking forward to your your comments. Let's have full participation for this term's journal entries.
Please note that for this term, we are going to do our journal entries on the class blog and your personal blogs on alternate weeks. So, you will have to do a reflection on the class blog on one week and a personal response to a given topic on the following week.

An enLIGHTening experience!
Today we went to the Science Centre for a Science Lab lesson on 'Light'. We had the company of Mrs Lam, a parent volunteer, and Miss Hernani who had spared the time to follow us on the trip. Our sincere thanks to both of them!
The lesson was planned as an extension to the concept of light energy that we have recently covered in class. Mr Andrew carried out a few demonstrations and you carried out 5 activities in pairs. Many of you 'ooohed' and 'wowwed' during the demonstrations. I'm sure it was a very enriching and enriching experience for all of you. I certainly enjoyed myself, especially when Mr Andrew brought out the plasma ball!
As a post-activity reflection, write about:
* 3 properties/ideas that you learnt about light
* 2 things you would share with your classmates who were not there
* 1 idea that you find interesting
P/S:
Perhaps you can start saving up to get your own plasma ball 'cos we may be making another trip to the science centre. ;)

What makes a HERO?
We commemorated Total Defence Day yesterday. The day started with a temperature-taking exercise, followed by a fire-evacuation drill. Most of you took part in both exercises seriously. That is a good indication of your readiness to face emergencies. Well done!
After recess, we watched a skit on Bukit Chandu, the story of Lieutenant Adnan, who led a 42-strong platoon from the Malay Regiment in the defense of Singapore against the Japanese invaders. The soldiers fought at the Battle of Pasir Panjang, at Pasir Panjang Ridge in the Bukit Chandu (Opium Hill) area on February 12-14, 1942.
Because of his actions at Bukit Chandu, Lieutenant Adnan is considered by Malaysians and Singaporeans today as a hero. Here are some questions for you to reflect on:
(1) What qualities did Lieutenant possess which makes him a hero?
(2) Who is your hero? Why is he/she your hero?
(3) What have you learnt from the Total Defence Day activities?
Click here for a quick recap on the Bt Chandu story.

My goals in 2008
By now, all of you would have a rough idea of what to expect for the the year. This is a big year for all of you. PSLE year. I'm sure that is the word that some of you don't want to hear, right? Don' worry, ya. We will be on this journey together. I'll be helping you in every step of the way. I just need you to get on board and work together as a team. Together we shall excel!
For your first reflection, I would like to hear about your plans for the year. Some of the questions that you could reflect on are:
(1) What are my expectations/goals for the year?
(2) What can I do to achieve them?
(3) What have I done right last year that contributed to my success?
(4) What have I not done last year but will do this year?
Remember, a reflective learner is a progressive learner. So be honest in your reflections. There is no right or wrong answer. I'm looking forward to hearing from all of you! :)
