What makes a HERO?

We commemorated Total Defence Day yesterday. The day started with a temperature-taking exercise, followed by a fire-evacuation drill. Most of you took part in both exercises seriously. That is a good indication of your readiness to face emergencies. Well done!

After recess, we watched a skit on Bukit Chandu, the story of Lieutenant Adnan, who led a 42-strong platoon from the Malay Regiment in the defense of Singapore against the Japanese invaders. The soldiers fought at the Battle of Pasir Panjang, at Pasir Panjang Ridge in the Bukit Chandu (Opium Hill) area on February 12-14, 1942.

Because of his actions at Bukit Chandu, Lieutenant Adnan is considered by Malaysians and Singaporeans today as a hero. Here are some questions for you to reflect on:

(1) What qualities did Lieutenant possess which makes him a hero?
(2) Who is your hero? Why is he/she your hero?
(3) What have you learnt from the Total Defence Day activities?

Click here for a quick recap on the Bt Chandu story.

He had the will to defend his country to the death....despite being outnumbered, the malay regiment was feared by the japanese troops who were given orders to attack them as the malay regiment had a powerful weapon, their spirit to defend their country.
My hero is Lim Bo Seng.He was a patriot and wanted to defend his country from the japanese invasion. Without him, we might not be able to prevent the japanese from leaving in 3 years.
I have learnt that it is better to be late then never to practice emergency situations, to be ready anytime and anywhere.

(1) What qualities did Lieutenant possess which makes him a hero?
He is courageous and willing to fight and die for his country
(2) Who is your hero? Why is he/she your hero?
Lieutenant Adan Bin Saidi.
He defended Pasir Panjang bravely. Even if he ran out of ammos, but he told his troops to fight to their death and defend Singapore
(3)What have you learnt from the Total Defence Day activities?
We should not depend on other country for defence. It also means that Singapore should have her own army, navy and air defences.

(1) He was a courageous, loyal, patriotic and determined person.

(2)My hero is Lieutenant Adnan because he fought for Singapore bravely during the Japanese Occupation and died for Singapore.

(3)I learnt that being ready for an emergency is very important. For example, if there is a fire in school, we need to know where to assemble and where the fire is.
